Fox News has sent out invitations to the President Donald Trump and Kamala Harris campaigns to participate in the first presidential debate since Biden dropped out and Harris was installed by Democrat leadership in her place. That debate would be in Pennsylvania on September 17.

That date is only seven days after the previously scheduled debate that would have been between Trump and ousted candidate President Joe Biden, who tendered his resignation from the campaign on Sunday via social media post. The two men had committed to participating in that debate, hosted by ABC.

The first debate of the general election season happened much earlier than usual during this cycle, on June 27. Believed to be something of an audition for Biden, who did not make call-backs, the CNN-hosted debate was rife with stringent rules that seemed intended to set Biden up for success. There was no audience, no media present other than cameras. A strict, 2-minute time limit was in place for questions and the mics of both men were cut off at the end of their delegated answer time.

After Biden was forced out of the race by Democrat leaders, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi among them, albeit with the tacit, behind the scenes approval from Biden's former boss President Barack Obama, Trump proposed that this time, the debate between himself and runner-up Harris be hosted on the conservative-leaning network.

Neither campaign has yet accepted the invitation. Fox News has said that the rules, and location, are all negotiable. Pennsylvania is a key battleground state.

The letter stated that the hosts of the debate would be the network's own Brett Baier and Martha MacCallum, who they say are "the faces of our political coverage" and therefore "the best choices to moderate."

"In recognition of FOX News Media's capabilities and reputation, we cordially extend an invitation to all concerned parties to discuss our proposal. We appreciate your consideration and look forward to the opportunity to foster informed political dialogue a this pivotal moment for our nation," they say in conclusion.
