LA Mayor Karen Bass slammed after complaining about increased ICE budget

"This is exactly what I voted for."

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass posted with dismay, saying "They gave ICE a budget bigger than most of the world’s militaries. Instead of investing in housing, jobs, or health care, they’re funding fear — tearing families apart in our neighborhoods. These raids must end."

The passage of the Big Beautiful Bill last week allocated some $170.7 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement so that the Trump administration can engage in their mission of mass deportations, which was a key component of his presidential campaign.

Bass is right, that ICE's budget is larger than the military budget of almost 200 nations across the world and is only topped by the United States Armed Forces and that of China. The job of ICE is to deport illegal immigrant criminals, and other illegal immigrants, as well as to secure the border along with Border Patrol.

Bass shared a video as well, condemning the president's use of the National Guard in response to riots she left unchecked in her city for days.

"What is happening in Los Angeles is not normal. It is not normal to send in the National Guard without a request from the governor. It is not normal to conduct indiscriminate raids on our immigrant population. Let LA return to normal. Get the National Guard out," she said.

She claimed that "LA is the test ground, the petri dish for the experiment to see how much will the American people tolerate." She then went on to say that the new detention center for illegal immigrants in Florida, called "Alligator Alcatraz," was inhumane because it uses wildlife as a hindrance to escape from that location.

Los Angeles is a so-called sanctuary city in a sanctuary state, meaning that local law prevents local law enforcement from working with federal law enforcement. This means that, when local law enforcement releases or houses a criminal illegal immigrant, they do not inform federal officials.

The Department of Justice has brought suit against the city over their policies. A recent spate of violent riots against law enforcement over immigration cost taxpayers over $30 million.

When federal law enforcement comes to collect that person, they are forced to go out into the community to find them. If that individual is in the company of other illegal immigrants, those people are taken into custody as well.

Border czar Tom Homan said "We have to arrest 7,000 every single day for the remainder of this administration just to catch the ones Biden released into the nation."

"In passing this bill, Congress is stripping lifesaving health care from millions of Americans to pay for an increasingly aggressive, dangerous, and obsessive deportation agenda," ACLU Deputy Director of Government Affairs Sarah Mehta said.

"With over $170 billion, ICE will become the largest law enforcement agency in the U.S., with a bigger budget than most of the world's militaries. Armed with this funding, this administration will be able to multiply its violent raids and detain over 750,000 children, parents, and longtime residents in remote detention camps where, even now, people are dying."

X users responded to Bass, saying that she is part of the problem and ICE is part of the solution.

"Instead of dumping billions to give illegals free everything they’re using our money to do what we want them to do for once: removing millions of people who are draining American citizens dry," said Peachy Keenan.

"That’s what happens when Democrats let in 15 million people. Then we have to use a lot of resources to get them out, AND unfortunately they have to use even MORE resources because your stupid state doesn’t work with federal law-enforcement. YOU put your communities in danger and then complain that it’s costing too much when Trump has to clean up YOUR mess. PLUS, for someone who was on a taxpayer-funded trip to Ghana when half your city burned down, I don’t think you should be commenting on the use of resources. Sit down," said Tomi Lahren.

"Raise your hand if you voted for this!" said Libs of TikTok.

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had a problem with the funding, as well, saying "I don't think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not just a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what's happening now look like child's play. And people are disappearing."

"This is exactly what I voted for. Who else voted for this?" Libs of TikTok asked.

When an attorney posted his concerns about the ICE budget, Jack Posobiec asked "Is this what you voted for?" And was met with a resounding "yes."
