"If you can't fill a fire hydrant, you aren't qualified to host the Olympics."
According to the New York Post, venues such as the SoFi Stadium, which hosted the 2022 Superbowl in Inglewood, California, as well as the Carson Stadium are also under threat being 19 and 28 miles away from the fire respectively. Amid the sports venues being under threat, and many slamming California government officials over the management of the disaster, some have called for the 2028 Olympics to get a different location.
Turning Point USA founder and CEO Charlie Kirk posted, "The Los Angeles Olympics should be cancelled. If you can't fill a fire hydrant, you aren't qualified to host the Olympics. Move them to Dallas, or Miami, so the world's athletes can compete in a place capable of actually safely building and running something."
The Riviera Golf Club is one of the most popular courses for the best players in the world, but it is only five miles away from the Palisades fire and is within an evacuation zone. The SoFi stadium is set to host the swimming and the Intuit Dome, 19 miles away from the closest blaze.
The UCLA campus has been assigned as the Olympic Village, or the location where all the athletes will be staying. An Olympic historian and Rice University Professor, Tom Stallings, told the outlet that if anything happened to the venues and "if it isn’t feasible to fix it in the next three years" then the Olympics would likely "move [the events] to other areas or stadiums or courses in close proximity."
