During the House of Commons Ethics Committee, Liberal MPs managed to block a probe into contracts that the Trudeau government gave out during the pandemic.
A Conservative MP initially proposed this probe, according to Blacklock's Reporter. This probe was titled a "study into issues of conflict of interest and the Lobbying Act in relation to pandemic spending."
The Liberal MPs managed to achieve this with the help of the Bloc Quebecois. "It would just be stirring the pot," said one Liberal MP.
"It doesn’t seem logical to waste our time. I think we should move onto something else," he added.
Since the start of the pandemic, the Trudeau government has awarded $508.9 billion in deficit expenditures. Much of this spending is unaccounted for.
"We know there’s been $500 billion in pandemic spending that has occurred, said the Conservative MP. "I think it’s important for Canadians and indeed important for this committee to have the confidence pandemic spending has been done in an open, transparent and accountable manner."
One of the more controversial sole-sourced contracts offered during the pandemic was offered to Baylis Medical Company. This company is managed by a former Liberal MP. They received $237 million for ventilators that were never used.
