On Tuesday, the City of Miami posted to Twitter that they would be holding a gun buyback program called "Guns 4 Ukraine," in which prospective gun owners who bring back their weapons would be given a gift card. The weapons will be either "properly disposed of or reallocated for use in support of Ukraine."

"In an effort to support Ukraine and take guns off of our streets, @CityofMiami and @MiamiPD will be hosting a gun buyback on Saturday, June 18," the city’s post on Twitter read.

"Please ensure all firearms are unloaded and transported in a secure carrying case, No questions asked!" the post continued.

Prospective gun owners that bring a general "firearm" will be given a $50 visa gift card. Those that bring in a shotgun or rifle will be given a $100 gift card. Those that bring in "a high powered rifle," citing ".223 caliber, AR-15, AK-47" as examples, will receive a $150 gift card. These gift cards amount to what is usually a small portion of the price of a new gun, the price of ammunition not included.

On their website, the city states that old, unused, or found weapons could be brought in, once again stressing "no questions asked."

In an FAQ section, the city addressed the question as to why a person should turn in their guns.

"Turning in an undesired gun is a great way to take guns off the streets by preventing the potential of them falling into the wrong hands. Turning in a gun during the gun buyback the provides safety and security of knowing that the weapon will be properly disposed of or reallocated for use in support of Ukraine. It is also a great way to show your support in the fight against gun violence," the city explained.

These donations would be going to Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, "the largest umbrella organization representing the interests of nearly 2 million Ukrainian Americans, and has been addressing these humanitarian challenges with direct aid delivered to Ukraine," the city explained.

According to NBC 6, the guns received through this program would be shipped to Ukraine to support the country’s efforts to defend itself from the ongoing Russian invasion.

In response to the Twitter post, a number of the social media giant’s users blasted the city’s program.
