"He's special, he's unique, and he is our little snowflake,"
On Saturday, a man gave Florida Governor Ron DeSantis a "participation trophy" at a town hall event in Iowa in the lead-up to Monday's caucuses.
A video of the incident posted on X, shows the man telling the crowd, "Governor DeSantis I want to present to you this participation trophy."
"Now, probably not going to win the election, right? But we are proud of you for trying," he added while trying to give the Florida Governor the trophy.
As he refused to take the trophy, DeSantis said, "I don't need participation trophies. Sorry. Sorry."
"He's special, he's unique, and he is our little snowflake," the man added before being escorted out by security.
A recent Suffolk poll of Iowa Republican Presidential Caucus-Goers shows the Florida Governor sitting in a distant third place, with just under 13 percent of the vote. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is polling in second place at 20 percent, and former President Donald Trump leads the field with support from 54 percent of those polled.
When asked who the respondent's second choice would be, DeSantis gained the most votes being listed as 26 percent of respondents' second choice.
This was not the first time DeSantis was trolled while campaigning in Iowa. In August, people chanted "We love Trump" at the Iowa State Fair while he was flipping burgers. At the same time, a banner was being flown overhead that read, "Be Likeable, Ron!"
On Wednesday, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was caught on a hot mic saying that DeSantis called him "petrified" before it cut out. On the same day, the Florida governor debated rival Haley on CNN, while Donald Trump participated in a town hall on Fox News which received nearly 2 million more viewers.
In the 25-54 demographic, Trump's town hall had 553,000 viewers while the debate had 478,000. Fourth-place Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy received over 700,000 views on a YouTube town hall event with Tim Pool.
