"July 4th. 250th birthday of the USA. Live on CBS from the White House."
White appeared on CBS Mornings, where he was asked about the prospect of the fight that had been announced by Trump previously. “It is definitely going to happen,” White told the hosts on the network. White then added that the event will be taking place on "July 4th, [the] 250th birthday of the USA. Live on CBS from the White House."
White later added, “When [Trump] called me and asked me to do it, he said, ‘I want Ivanka in the middle of this.' So Ivanka reached out to me, and … I started talking about the possibilities.”
Earlier in July of this year, Trump made the announcement that the White House lawn would be made into the location for a UFC fight as the United States is approaching its 250th anniversary. "Every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of ‘America250’ and I even think we’re going to have a UFC fight," Trump said at the time.
"Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White? We’re going to have a UFC fight. We’re going to have a UFC fight — think of this — on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there," Trump added in the speech. "We’re going to build a little — we’re not, Dana is going to do it. Dana is great, one of a kind — going to be a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20,000 to 25,000 people, and we’re going to do that as part of ‘250’ also."
While the event is confirmed to take place, White said that it is too early to know who the fighters for the event are going to be. The comments from White follow a $7.7 billion deal the UFC made with Paramount announced on Monday.
