President Donald Trump is set to award Charlie Kirk the Medal of Freedom posthumously on what would have been Kirk's 32nd birthday next week. The event is expected to take place on October 14.

Trump had announced on September 11 that he would be awarding Kirk the Medal of Freedom, saying at the time, "I am pleased to announce that I will soon be awarding Charlie Kirk, posthumously, the Presidential Medal of Freedom!”

According to sources who spoke to CNN, the award ceremony will take place on October 14. Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University on September 10 as he was speaking to students on campus. Tyler Robinson, who has been charged with Kirk's murder, is facing the death penalty in Utah.

The president talked about Kirk's death on September 11, honoring his legacy of touching the lives of young Americans. "Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty, and an inspiration to millions and millions of people."

Kirk founded Turning Point USA, one of the largest nonprofit activism organizations in the country. Since Kirk's death, there have been over 120,000 inquiries for new TPUSA chapters across the country at college campuses, and Club America chapters (TPUSA's high school club name) at high schools.

Club America chapters have also more than doubled in the past month. As of October 7, there were 2,700 formed Club America chapters, which is more than double the 1,200 that had been formed previous to Kirk's assassination.
