They thought it was over. When I could see it I wanted to do something to let them know I was okay. I raised my right arm looked at the 1000s and 1000s of people that were restlessly waiting and started shouting ‘Fight, fight fight,'" he said.
"Tragically, the shooter claimed the life of one of our fellow Americans, Corey Comperatore. He was an unbelievable person everybody tells me." Trump also recognized those who had been injured during the shooting. David Dutch, a 57-year-old Marine veteran who was shot in the chest and the liver. 74-year-old James Copenhaver was also struck by the gunfire. Both Dutch and Copenhaver were in critical condition after the shooting but have since been stabilized.
He then had the audience give a moment of silence to recognize Comperatore, and the sacrifice he made during his life. Comperatore had been a volunteer fire chief.
