BREAKING: Trump to offer buyout to 2 MILLION federal workers: report
The administration estimates that it will lead to $100 billion in cost savings.
The administration estimates that it will lead to $100 billion in cost savings.

The Trump administration plans to give all federal employees the option to accept a "deferred resignation," offering a severance package that includes about eight months of pay and benefits.
A senior Trump administration official told NBC News that the administration anticipates that 5-10 percent of all federal workers will quit their jobs as a result. The administration also estimates that it will lead to $100 billion in cost savings.
"The government-wide email being sent today is to make sure that all federal workers are on board with the new administration's plan to have federal employees in office and adhering to higher standards. We're five years past COVID and just 6 percent of federal employees work full-time in office. That is unacceptable," a senior Trump official told Axios.
The offer will be given to all federal employees with the exception of military members, the Postal Service, as well as those working on immigration or national security.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters in a statement, "American taxpayers pay for the salaries of federal government employees, and therefore deserve employees working on their behalf who actually show up to work in our wonderful federal buildings, also paid for by taxpayers. If they don’t want to work in the office and contribute to making America great again, then they are free to choose a different line of work, and the Trump Administration will provide a very generous payout of 8 months."
The American Federation of Government Employees, or the largest union representing federal employees, condemned the move from the Trump White House, "Between the flurry of anti-worker executive orders and policies, it is clear that the Trump administration's goal is to turn the federal government into a toxic environment where workers cannot stay even if they want to.”
The Trump administration is making good on promises to shake things up in the executive branch only days into the administration. In addition to this, Trump has signed an executive order banning DEI programs in any government agency as well as the military.
