CVS security guard’s mother claims he was forced to kill shoplifter in NYC in self-defense: report

Scotty Enoe, 46, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon after being arrested at the CVS at the corners of 49th Street and Broadway in New York City.

A shoplifter had been trying to steal merchandise when Enoe confronted him. The thief punched Enoe in response. After the stabbing took place, officers came to the scene in response to reports of a robbery taking place.

With contusions to the face, Enoe went with the officers to a local precinct. Once he was in custody, he did not make any statements and requested to speak with a lawyer.

“I feel very sad about the man even though he attacked my son," Enoe's mother, Lucille, told the Daily News. "The guy came in and started arguing with Scotty. Next thing you know, Scotty was on the ground. He acted in self-defense."

Enoe's sister added to her mother's account and said, “This guy attacked him. My brother is a good person. In a situation like that he would defend himself."

“These people are coming off the street and robbing and you never know what they might have — a gun or a knife," she continued.

The homeless man involved in the scuffle with Enoe was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital and had a previous record of shoplifting arrests. A police source said, "That's his MO, he targets CVS and Walgreens.

Enoe, according to the police, has no criminal record.

“He works two jobs and he’s never been in trouble. All he does is work. He goes from one job to the next,” Enoe’s sister said. “I’m on disability. I don’t know what I’m going to do."

Wayne Augustine, one of Enoe's friends, also said that Enoe has no history of violence or aggression. "He suffers from sickle cell anemia really fiercely and he still goes to work," Augustine added.

The incident comes after two other controversial arrests of Daniel Penny and Jordan Williams, who were both arrested after allegedly acting to defend themselves and others from people acting erratically on the subway system.
