Elon Musk says he would support Ron DeSantis for president in 2024

Twitter User ProudElephantUS asked, "Would you support Ron DeSantis in 2024, Elon?" And the Tesla and SpaceX CEO replied, "Yes."

DeSantis has not announced a run for the presidency in 2024, and was recently reelected Florida governor in the November midterm elections.

Musk's response came in a thread related to his announcement on November 19 that Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States, would be reinstated to Twitter. Trump did not return to the platform and has remained on his own Truth Social platform.

Musk said, "I'm fine with Trump not tweeting. The important thing is that Twitter correct a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the law or terms of service. Deplatforming a sitting President undermined public trust in Twitter for half of America."

In the subsequent Twitter thread, Musk said, "But freedom of speech is the bedrock of a strong democracy and must take precedence. My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far."

It was after that assertion he was asked if he would support DeSantis.

Musk made similar comments in June, and said he would back DeSantis if he were to run for president in 2024.

Musk made the comment during a brief interaction on Twitter, where he said that he voted for a Republican for the first time in his life after voting for Mayra Flores, who won her special congressional election in Texas last night.

In response to Musk, DeSantis said at a press conference on June 15, "I welcome support from African Americans. What can I say?"
