House GOP weighs contempt charges for Mark Zuckerberg: report

Sources familiar with the matter have confirmed the situation to the Post Millennial that Facebook's parent company, Meta, has not provided internal communications regarding censorship from the company after it was subpoenaed. Zuckerberg may be held in contempt as a result.

Jim Jordan, subpoenaed big tech executives earlier this year for documentation of all censorship activities on behalf of the House Judiciary Committee.

Zuckerberg, who was named on the list of the executives, was required to turn over all requested documentation by March 23, 2023.

Meta has turned over documentation in response to the committee's call in February, however, none of them included the specified internal communications that were asked for.

This comes as Zuckerberg has launched his Twitter competitor, Threads, which has already seen a decline in its usage after initially gaining over 100 million users.

A letter from Jordan was sent to Zuckerberg on Monday that raises concerns over free speech on the new platform, saying, "Given that Meta has censored First Amendment-protected speech as a result of government agencies’ requests and demands in the past, the Committee is concerned about potential First Amendment violations that have occurred or will occur on the Threads platform."

The letter refers back to the subpoena in February and reiterates, as a "formal request," for Zuckerberg and the company to "preserve all existing and future records and materials relating to the Threads platform." All documentation from the subpoena is to be turned into Congress "no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 31, 2023."

Citing a report from Outkick, the letter stated, "Despite launching only 12 days ago, there are reports that Threads is already engaging in censorship, including censoring users but offering no grounds for appeal."

Jordan made it a point in the letter to tell Zuckerberg all "messages sent using [his] official and personal accounts or devices" are also to be submitted to the Judiciary Committee.
