In a series of Truth Social posts published on Monday, 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump stated that Biden’s Department of Justice has held back on filing charges against himself for two and a half years to "illegally and negatively influence the 2024 Presidential Election."
"The radical left Democrat thugs shouldn’t be allowed to investigate me during, and in the middle of, my campaign for President. Why didn’t they file these ridiculous charges 2.5 years ago?" Trump wrote.

We are going to take our now third world nation (airports, elections, roads/highways, borders, etc.) and, make America great again. Be strong," he added.

In a separate post, Trump said he expects another indictment from Special Counsel Jack Smith and his team in the coming days.
"I assume that an indictment from deranged Jack Smith and his highly partisan gang of thugs, pertaining to my 'peacefully & patriotically' speech, will be coming out any day now, as yet another attempt to cover up all of the bad news about bribes, payoffs, and extortion, coming from the Biden 'camp.' This seems to be the way they do it. Election interference! Prosecutorial misconduct!"

Late last week, lawyers for Trump met with Smith’s team about possible charges in connection to January 6, 2021.
Trump referred to the meeting as "productive," and revealed that the DOJ showed no indication that he would be given a notice.
"My attorneys had a productive meeting with the DOJ this morning, explaining in detail that I did nothing wrong, was advised by many lawyers, and that an indictment of me would only further destroy our country," Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time.
Smith and his team have been investigating possible charges in regards to whether Trump or other officials interfered with the peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 presidential election, including the certification of the Electoral College vote on January 6, 2021.
On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters entered the US Capitol building during the joint session of Congress. Over 1,000 people have been charged by the Department of Justice in connection to the events of that day.
The same day, Trump said in a video, "I know your pain, I know you're hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us, it was a landslide election. Everyone knows it, especially the other side. But you have to go home now. We have to have peace, we have to have law and order, we have to respect our great people in law and order. We don't want anybody hurt."
