A manhunt is underway to find those responsible for the shooting death of a 7-month-old girl who was caught in a gunfight in New York City. One person of interest is in custody and another is being sought.

Gunfire opened while a 7-month-old baby girl was in a stroller walking with her parents. Authorities believe that the shooting was gang-related and that the baby was caught in the firefight.

Kaori Patterson-Moore, only 7 months old, was shot dead while her young mother as well as her 2-year-old brother took cover in a deli as the shots rang out.

Authorities said that two suspects were involved. One of them has been detained after he sought medical care for his injuries, per Fox 5. The other suspect was at large as of Thursday morning.

Baby Kaori was struck in the head by a bullet at around 1:20 pm on Wednesday near Moore Street and Humboldt Street in Brooklyn, according to police.

Police said that the one suspect is being held on unrelated charges to the shooting as detectives are working to determine his role in the incident. Security footage of the incident showed the mother screaming in agony after she discovered that the baby was shot with a fatal head wound.

The family had originally thought that the sound of the gunshots were fireworks but turned out to be shots fired by the pair of thugs riding around on a moped.

"The male sitting at the rear of the moped can be seen taking out a gun and discharging at least two rounds toward the southwest corner," NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. "On that corner were several adults, as well as two strollers and several children standing nearby. Our seven-month-old victim was sitting inside one of these strollers when she was struck."

Police say that the baby's mother was pushing the stroller when the suspects approached the corner on the moped and then shot towards a group of people that were gathered on the street corner next to the shop. The mother fled to take cover in the bodega, not even realizing her daughter was shot after the fact.

Bystanders said that they heard an argument that was then followed by gunfire.
