“We’ve known them for many, many years and were supposed to be seeing them that night — last night," Michelle Obama said.
Michelle Obama appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Monday and revealed that she and the former president were supposed to be seeing them on Sunday evening. “We’ve known them for many, many years and were supposed to be seeing them that night — last night," Obama said on the show.
During the show, Obama also called out President Donald Trump's post on Reiner's death that he made on Monday, where Trump suggested that the film director’s death had something to do with him having “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
“Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
In an apparent response to Trump, Obama said to Kimmel, “Let me just say this: unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever wanna know. They are not deranged or crazed, what they have always been are passionate people.”
“In a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on, they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about. And they cared about their family and they cared about this country and they cared about fairness and equity. And that is the truth; I do know them,” Obama added.
Rob Reiner was reportedly seen in a heated argument with his son Nick at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party just one day before the murders took place. He was booked on Monday on suspicion of murdering his parents. Rob and Michele were found dead in their home in Brentwood on Sunday afternoon where their throats had been slit.
