A new Rasmussen Reports survey has revealed that a majority of Americans believe that Vice President Kamala Harris is not qualified to become president if the circumstance arises where she would have to take on the role.
In a survey of 1,000 US likely voters conducted between Aug. 12 and 15, the Rasmussen poll asked Americans: "How qualified is Kamala Harris to assume the responsibilities of the presidency?"
43 percent of respondents said that Harris is qualified to be president, with 29 percent of that total saying she is very qualified. That total is down from April, when 49 percent of respondents said that Harris is qualified.
55 percent of survey respondents said that Harris is unqualified to assume office, with 47 percent of that total saying that she is not at all qualified.
These survey results come amidst other surveys discovering a waning confidence amongst Americans in President Joe Biden's performance.
According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on Monday, the day after the Taliban took over Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul, just 46 percent of American adults approved of Biden's job performance. The number marks the lowest approval rating since his inauguration in January, and a seven-point drop from Friday.
Another Rasmussen poll conducted between Aug. 16 and 17 found that if faced with an election were upcoming, more voters would chose former President Donald Trump over Biden. Despite 50 percent of respondents identifying as Democrat, Trump was polling at 43 percent compared to Biden at 37 percent.
Biden's and Harris's approval ratings has faced some harsh dips since assuming office, with the first major dip occurring in April, amidst the ongoing crisis at the southern border, where immigration numbers there remain elevated to historic levels. Harris faced scrutiny over her long delayed visit to the borders choosing to visit countries in Central and South American first. The most recent and drastic dip comes amidst the unfolding chaos in Afghanistan, where Taliban fighters took over the capital of Kabul after the president fled the country.
