"A woman should be presumed to telling the truth, and should not be scapegoated and be victimized for coming forward."

In an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News, President Joe Biden said that New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo should resign if an investigation confirmed sexual harassment claims made by more than six women.

"If the investigation confirms the claims of the women, should he resign?" Stephanopoulos asked Biden in a clip that previews a full interview set to air Wednesday morning.

"Yes," Biden said. "I think he'll probably end up being prosecuted, too."

"A woman should be presumed to telling the truth, and should not be scapegoated and be victimized for coming forward," added Biden.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) threw down the gauntlet Tuesday and demanded the Governor’s resignation after having made statements last week, along with Senator Kristin Gillibrand (D-NY), which called on him to resign.

Cuomo has been accused by at least six women for sexual harassment allegations in the workplace which prompted New York lawmakers to call on his resignation, including House Representatives Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Jerry Nadler (D-NY).

On Sunday, President Joe Biden weighed in for the first time on the scandals surrounding the Democrat Governor. During an unscheduled question and answer session on the White House South Lawn a reporter asked the President, "Do you think Governor Andrew Cuomo should resign?"

Biden responded, "I think the investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us."

Governor Cuomo denied the sexual misconduct allegations but apologized for upsetting the women and said "I’m going to learn from it."

"I now understand that I acted in a way that made people feel uncomfortable, and I truly and deeply apologize for it," Cuomo said during a press conference earlier this month. "And frankly, I am embarrassed by it. And that's not easy to say, but that's the truth."

"I understand sensitivities have changed. Behavior has changed," Cuomo added. "I get it and I'm going to learn from it." According to Cuomo, calls for him to resign by fellow New York lawmakers are ‘anti-democratic’ and an example of 'cancel culture.'

"I apologized several days ago. I apologized today," Cuomo said when confirming to reporters that he has no intention to resign. "I will apologize tomorrow. I will apologize the day after. And I want New Yorkers to understand, because the facts will come out in the attorney general's review, but I want them to understand the emotion."

Cuomo insisted that "hugging and kissing" people as a form of greeting was part of his heritage and background, and that this was how his father greeted people too.

The New York Assembly Judiciary Committee authorized an impeachment investigation into the allegations against the Governor last Thursday. "The reports of accusations concerning the governor are serious," New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said in the announcement.

President Biden’s full interview will air on ABC Wednesday at 7am EST.
