Fetterman said that the immigration happening under former President Joe Biden was "unsustainable."
In the wake of the shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis after she ran her car into an ICE agent, many on the left have been calling to get rid of the agency and comparing measures being taken by the agency to the Gestapo. Fetterman, speaking to Will Cain on Fox News, said that the immigration happening under former President Joe Biden was “unsustainable” and that something needed to be done to secure the border.
“As a Democrat, it shouldn't be unreasonable to want to secure our border and do it in that way. And now let's also, let's also talk about ICE. Now, absolutely again, what happened in Minneapolis was absolutely tragic,” he said, referencing the shooting.
Holding up a report on the criminal activity from those ICE has arrested, Fetterman added, “These are people that ICE now arrested ... 67 percent have criminal charges, pending ones or that. So that's more than two-thirds, you know, the people now. Now, there are some people that aren't involved in any kinds of illegal things.”
“I think two things can be true, you know, round up all the criminals, deport them,” Fetterman added. “They shouldn't have ever been here, and they definitely have to go. And now I don't know, want to see more and more things happening in Minneapolis now too. So two things must be true, and I strongly reject the extreme on either side.”
This comes as some Democrats have even introduced legislation in order to abolish ICE. Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), who has called for the impeachment of Trump before, introduced a bill recently that would abolish ICE, although it is unlikely to move anywhere in Congress.
