Seattle activists march and vandalize stores in solidarity with rioters and looters in Minnesota

Activists marching through downtown Seattle Monday night vandalized multiple businesses following an officer involved fatal shooting of Duante Wright in Minnesota Sunday. Subsequent riots and looting rocked Minnesota.

Antifa and BLM social media accounts called for activists to gather in Occidental Park at 7 PM and began marching at 8 PM.

During the march, multiple businesses along 5th Avenue were vandalized as the group marched south. No arrests were reported at the time of publishing but authorities were on loudspeakers broadcasting warnings to the activists not to block traffic and keep demonstration peaceful or face arrest.

Seattle activists appeared prepared for violence, posting phone numbers for lawyers anticipating arrests.

Daunte Wright, 20, was fatally shot during a traffic stop after resisting arrest for an outstanding warrant on a weapons charge. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said the officer who shot Wright had intended to use a Taser and fired their gun instead. A female voice can be heard yelling, "Taser, taser, Taser!" in the bodycam footage.

Last May, following the death of George Floyd, riots destroyed many businesses in downtown Seattle. Riots and unrest have been a regular occurrence in the city ever since.

In response to the shooting of Wright, riots and looting have broken out across Brooklyn Center and Minneapolis for two consecutive nights, in an area already on high alert due to the trial of Derek Chauvin who is charged in George Floyd’s death.
