Just hours after a gunman attempted to assassinate Donald Trump, American comedy rock band Tenacious D took the stage for a concert in Sydney, Australia. During the event, lead guitarist and birthday boy Kyle Gass was asked to make a "wish," and proceeded to lament that the former president hadn't been killed.

"Don't miss Trump next time," Gass said, to which the audience responded with a mixture of laughter and shock. His comments were widely criticized on social media, with many suggesting his joke went too far.

After singing Happy Birthday, fellow bandmate Jack Black asked Gass to make a wish. He paused, then uttered the aforementioned line. Cheers erupted from the stands, though some appeared to be taken aback.

"Evil," Elon Musk wrote in response.

"I used to love [Tenacious D] and thought Jack Black was funny," Dana Loesch's husband, Chris, wrote. "None of them or their music/movies will ever be played in our home again. Ever. Sickening. Not funny and done in a foreign country is even worse. If you think it's OK, unfollow and block me."

"Jack laughed and endorsed it and he's the more well known figure," Loesch added. "He should have condemned it."

"I loved Tenacious D sooo much," another user noted. "Kyle Gass and Jack Black are absolutely disgusting. Not even remotely funny anymore. Propaganda social justice warriors."

Just last month, Black appeared at a fundraiser for Joe Biden. While decked out in Stars and Stripes overalls and a Dark Brandon t-shirt, he warned that "democracy is at stake."
