As the theatrical run of Snow White comes to an end, the scandal-plagued film has become the worst-performing Disney live-action remake film in 10 years.

The film, which was a remake of the 1937 classic, reached a global box office total of $205.5 million, with $87.2 million being in the domestic box office, per Collider. Deadline estimated that the all-in cost for the film was $410 million, and had previously projected that the film would lose $115 million.

Per Fox News, this is the worst performance for a live-action remake from Disney since the 2016 Pete’s Dragon remake, which received $143.7 million.

The movie had been plagued by scandal, mostly due to comments made Rachel Zegler, who played the titular role in the film.

Speaking on the story itself, Zegler had said, "I just mean that it's no longer 1937. And we absolutely wrote a Snow White that's not going to be shaped by the prince, and she's not going to be dreaming about true love, she's going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be, and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she were fearless, fair, brave, and true."

In the wake of the 2024 presidential election, Zegler had said in a now-deleted Instagram post, "I find myself speechless in the midst of this. May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace."

In the wake of comments to social media, Disney reportedly paid to have Zegler’s social media posts vetted before they were posted. Disney also scaled back the film's Hollywood premiere and placed plans for a live-action Tangled remake on hold.

In addition to backlash over Zegler's comments, the film also received criticism for its depiction of the dwarves seen in the film. Actor Peter Dinklage had called out the studio for considering depicting the dwarves seen in the classic film, saying in a 2022 podcast appearance, "You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f*cking backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together. What the f*ck are you doing, man?" In response, Disney said it would take a "different approach" to the seven dwarves, and the final film saw the seven dwarves brought to life through use of CGI.
