A shooting in Times Square early Saturday morning left three people injured after a 17-year-old gunman opened fire into a crowd.

According to a report by the New York Post, the shooting occurred around 1:20 am near 44th Street and 7th Avenue during a dispute between two people, though police have not released further details on how the incident unfolded. An 18-year-old woman was shot in the neck, while two men, ages 19 and 65, suffered gunshot wounds to the legs.

All three victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital and are in stable condition, according to police.

Law enforcement apprehended the teenage suspect at the scene and recovered a firearm. The suspect’s identity has not been released due to his age, and charges have yet to be filed.

Video taken at the scene by Freedom News TV showed a large police response investigating the crime scene.

Times Square is classified as a “sensitive location” under New York law, where firearms are prohibited. Handgun owners in the state must prove “good moral character” to obtain a permit.

The incident comes as New York City has experienced a sharp decline in gun crime recently. According to New York police commissioner Jessica Tisch, the first seven months of 2025 saw the fewest shooting incidents since the city began keeping records on gun crime, with 412 recorded between January and July. As of August 3, shootings were down 23 percent compared to the same time last year.
