Texas Governor Greg Abbott has made the call to mobilize resources to help California as it continues to deal with deadly wildfires. The Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) has dispatched firefighters, emergency personnel, fire engines, and equipment to support efforts in combating the blazes. Governor Abbott noted that California's Office of Emergency Services requested aid due to the overwhelming scale of the fires.

"Our hearts grieve with the entire Los Angeles community as they continue to respond to these destructive wildfires," Abbott said in a statement. "Texans know all too well the devastation wildfires can cause to our communities, and our country is stronger when we come together in times of crisis. I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy firefighters, fire engines, and firefighting equipment to help our fellow Americans battle these wildfires."

TDEM is deploying over 135 personnel, 45 fire engines, ambulances, command vehicles, and other resources, the department said.

Fire departments across Texas are also contributing to the effort, including Dallas Fire-Rescue, who've sent a Type 3 fire engine staffed with four wildland firefighters, along with two members of its Emergency Medical Task Force to provide critical medical support for crews on the ground, according to CBS News.

The Texas strike team includes firefighting units from Parker County, Greenville, Allen, Frisco, and McKinney, led by a designated team leader. The deployment initially planned for 14 days, with the possibility of extension depending on needs. Justin Ball, Dallas Fire Rescue Interim Fire Chief, expressed the department's commitment: “We stand in solidarity with the teams of firefighters working to protect lives and property. Dallas Fire Rescue Department is always ready to step in to support our fellow firefighters, especially in these extremely challenging conditions.”

Governor Abbott also thanked the responders for their bravery and sent prayers for the victims, families, and emergency crews. "Cecilia and I pray for the victims who lost their lives and their families, the heroic men and women of CAL FIRE, the Los Angeles Fire Department, and the entire state of California during this difficult time," he said, per DallasNews.

Beyond Texas, international support is pouring in from north of the border. Several Canadian provinces have already contributed, with Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan announcing the deployment of 60 firefighters from Alberta and British Columbia. These teams are expected to arrive as early as Monday, with federal and provincial coordination in place to prepare additional resources. Sajjan said, "Our American friends have asked for help to fight the wildfires in California, and Team Canada is responding. Neighbours helping neighbours," according to the CBC.

Meanwhile, Quebec has doubled its support by adding two more CL-415 skimmer airtankers to the two it initially sent in August 2024. The highly specialized aircraft are of utmost importance in aerial firefighting efforts, giving ground crews additional help in fighting the blaze.
