The British newspaper took down their online poll after noticing that JK Rowling was in the lead.
On December 15, The Guardian posted an article regarding Time Magazine's decision to award Elon Musk the title of "person of the year." At the end of the article was a poll, asking readers "Who would be your 2021 person of the year, and why?"
Responses flooded in and world renowned author JK Rowling soared into top spot. Soon after, the poll was nixed. Rowling, still best known as the mind behind the Harry Potter series, has recently made a name for herself by standing up for women's rights, and being slammed as "transphobic" for doing so.
Rowling has stood up for the rights of biological women, decrying policies that seek to label female-identifying but biologically male rapists as women, and ensuring that respect for trans-identities does not trump real risks women face if men are allowed into traditionally feminine spaces.
Her stance on the issue has caused many to come out and label her "transphobic," however she has dismissed any accusations that she harbors resentment for the transgender community.
Nonetheless, as of late Rowling's steadfast belief in women's rights has caused quite the stir, and attempts to cancel her have been rampant. In November, for example, Rowling was doxxed by trans-activists, and in December, major Quidditch organizations announced they planned to distance themselves from the author, despite the fact that without her their sport would not exist.
The Guardian has not yet told readers why the "person of the year" poll was deactivated.
