The New Republic (TNR) published hit piece on North Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson after quoting him, out-of-context, saying that "some people need killing" when he referred to America's enemies in Nazi Germany during Word War II, the Japanese Army after Pearl Harbor, and violent criminals.

TNR headlined the article, "MAGA Gov candidate's ugly hateful rant: 'Some folks need killing,'" with the report published on Friday. The piece called the speech he gave in at the church "extremist" and claimed that he "appeared to endorse lethal violence against these unnamed enemies, particularly on the left."

Robinson had been referring to Nazis in WWII, and Japanese army when it bombed Pearl Harbor, as well as violent criminals when he made the comments about people who have been killed by the US army. He also said before the comments that there were people in America with "evil intent" in the country.

"When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, what did we do? We flew to Japan! And we killed the Japanese Army and Navy! We didn't even quibble about it. I didn't start this fight, you did. If you wanted to be left alone you should have left me alone. We didn’t argue and capitulate and talk about, well, maybe we shouldn’t fight the Nazis that hard. No, they’re bad. Kill them. Some liberal somewhere is going to say that sounds awful. Too bad. Get mad at me if you want to."

"Some folks need killing! It’s time for somebody to say it. It’s not a matter of vengeance. It’s not a matter of being mean or spiteful. It’s a matter of necessity! When you have wicked people doing wicked things, torturing and murdering and raping. It’s time to call out" Robinson added. He then said that the "guys in green" or the "guys in blue" can take of those situations.

Robinson began his speech saying, "I'm not gonna talk about politics today. We're not gonna talk about politics. We talked about a little bit already. Y'all know what's going on. So we don't need to go there. We're not gonna talk about the governor race. We're not gonna talk about presidential race. I'm not talking about any of that. We're not gonna talk about any of that today. Why? Because next week, is July 4, so I'm just gonna talk about one thing. Talk about one word, freedom. What it means, how we got here."

He then went into a speech about a half an hour long about the suffering of soldiers who had to sacrifice for the freedoms that Americans get to enjoy and enemies of the nation in various wars in history. Robinson also told an inspiring story about people who escaped tyrannical governments to have freedom in America.
