"Our family has saved the hotel once. If asked, we would save it again," Eric Trump said.
The incoming president's company, the Trump Organization, is mulling the possibility of purchasing the floundering hotel as he takes office, according to a report from the New York Post. “Our family has saved the hotel once. If asked, we would save it again,” Eric Trump told the outlet in an interview.
Waldorf-Astoria, just a few blocks from the White House, became a spot where DC lobbyists, operatives, and fundraisers would go when Trump opened the location in 2016. However, the stream of visitors to the hotel took a dip after Hilton took it over and cut ties with the Trump brand.
The Post reported that the decision of the purchase is "to be determined" as of early December, however, the president-elect is still eyeing the location. In 2022, the Trump brand sold the lease of the hotel to Hilton, which controls the Waldorf brand, with its 263 rooms, along with 35 suites and a two-story townhouse that comes with a private entrance.
The sources that spoke to the outlet reportedly said that no formal communication between the Trump Organization and the Waldorf Hotel has taken place as of yet, and when the Post reached out to the Waldorf for comment, they did not receive a response.
The 2022 deal involved a group of investors from Miami who bought it up for $375 million and the purchase was backed by former Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez. As part of the deal, Hilton would oversee operations.
