Trump’s appearance comes as Penn State seeks its fourth consecutive national title. A victory would mark the third time since 2011 that the school has won four straight championships. Penn State currently leads with 169 points, 60 ahead of second-place Nebraska.
"We're going to the big fight… They have the NCAA, world, wrestling for college. And I've always supported the wrestlers," Trump told reporters outside the White House on Friday, according to Fox News. "So, I want to support them. These are the great college wrestlers from the various schools. I think Penn State is leading, and Nebraska is in second place right now. And a lot of good things."
Fox News reported that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan will accompany Trump to the event. Jordan was a former wrestling champion at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, winning an NCAA Division I men's wrestling title twice. He also was an assistant coach for Ohio State University's wrestling program from 1987 to 1995.
Trump’s attendance at the wrestling championships continues a series of sporting events he has visited since winning the presidential election in November. In December, he and Vice President JD Vance attended the Army-Navy game alongside Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
Trump also became the first sitting US president to attend the Super Bowl and made an appearance at the Daytona 500 in February, where he was seen riding in "The Beast," the presidential state car, on the track before the race began.
