In May, Donald Trump's campaign outdid Joe Biden in fundraising by tens of millions. This came as Trump was convicted on May 30, which sparked an outpouring of donations for the 45th president from supporters.

Trump was able to raise $141 million in comparison to Biden's $85 million last month, all the while Trump was on trial, ultimately leading to his conviction in the falsified business records case out of New York City, per Axios.

The numbers reflect the support that came Trump's way after the conviction occurred on May 30. In the 24 hours following, the presumptive GOP nominee was able to raise $53 million after the trial, which many conservatives saw as trumped-up charges against him. Separately, Trump's Super PAC was able to raise $69 million, including a $50 million donation from billionaire Timothy Mellon.

May is the second month in a row that has seen Trump raise more donations over the Biden camp. Earlier in the election cycle, Biden was able to amass a sizeable amount in contrast to the presumptive GOP nominee and had entered the month of April with over $192 million in cash on hand, more than double what Trump had at the time. However, through the month of April, Trump was able to take more cash in than Biden with $76 million versus $51 million respectively.

Biden has been spending aggressively over the last week or so as part of a $50 million ad buy leading up to the June 27 debate in order to craft a narrative around Trump about his conviction and other legal cases. Biden's communications director Michael Tyler stated the attack ads are the "connective tissue that we’re building as we approach the debate.”

As of June 6, Trump announced that the campaign had raised over $400 million since his conviction. Trump has received support from tech businessman David Sacks as well as other high-level businessmen in Silicon Valley.
