Colt Sirstins posted a video on X saying he was “kicked out” of the game for wearing the hat, calling the move “insane considering everything going on this week."
UPDATE: Real Salt Lake released a statement apologizing to the veteran.
Original story follows.
A US military veteran says he was thrown out of a Real Salt Lake match for wearing a Make America Great Again hat and now plans to take legal action.
Colt Sirstins posted a video on X saying he was “kicked out” of the game for wearing the MAGA hat during the match, calling the move “insane considering everything going on this week,” referencing the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah. He also noted it was not the security guard’s fault because he was just “doing his job.”
Speaking to the Post Millennial, Sirstins said security personnel and a team official approached him around the 60th minute and told him to remove the hat or leave.
“I wasn’t even rowdy. Genuinely no interaction with any fans,” he explained.
Sirstins, who is a veteran, wrote on X that he intends to pursue legal action against the club over his removal for the hat.
The ejection comes days after Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University, prompting vigils across Utah and nationwide. In Provo, Utah, attendees gathered and sang “God be with you till we meet again.”
The incident also follows other recent removals of spectators wearing pro-conservative merchandise during sporting events. Last month, a fan was ejected from a St. Louis City game after officials said his MAGA violated Major League Soccer’s policy on political symbols, despite Pride flags being flown inside the stadium during the same match.

Sue, sue, SUE these miscreants. The USA, fortunately, still has free speech, and this is a public arena.
