Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the House of Commons on Wednesday that he would be receiving his second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Trudeau said that the decision was made following a consultation with his doctor.

The question came from Shadow Minister of Health Michelle Rempel Garner, who noted that the prime minister lives in a province where the doses are being paused or stalled.

Ontario's government announced on Tuesday that the province would be pausing its use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for safety and supply reasons.

Specifically, AstraZeneca will no longer be given as a first dose, and will only be given to those who require a second dose of the vaccine.

The announcement during a 4 pm press conference with the province's chief medical officer of health, Dr. David Williams, who said that the vaccine had a link to a rare and potentially fatal blood clotting disorder, called vaccine-induced immune thrombotic-thrombocytopenia (VITT).

Over two million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been given across Canada.
