White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday that President Joe Biden agrees former President Donald Trump meets the definition of a “fascist.” She was responding to comments made by former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly who told The New York Times that he believed Trump was a fascist and had said German dictator Adolf Hiter had done some “good things.”

Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris also addressed Kelly’s comments at a Wednesday news conference that didn’t feature any questions or answers.

Jean-Pierre was asked to clarify her statement that “we do agree” with Kelly’s allegations. “I mean, yes… the former president has said he is going to be a dictator on day one. We cannot ignore that. We cannot ignore or forget what happened on Jan. 6, 2021. That is real,” she said.

“So you know, do we agree? I know that the vice president just spoke about this. Do we agree about that determination? Yes, we do. We do. Let's not forget,” Jean-Pierre continued as she then claimed that people were told [by Trump] to go to the Capitol to undo a free and fair election. "It was a dark, dark day in our democracy, and a dangerous one,” she said before turning to Kelly’s accusations that Trump demeaned American veterans and spoke admiringly about Hitler.

“I can't believe I even have to say this, but our nation's veterans are heroes. They are heroes. They're not losers or suckers. They are heroes. And to be praising Adolf Hitler is dangerous and it's also disgusting.”

When asked if Biden has “actually read” Kelly’s comments, Jean-Pierre responded, “The president is aware of John Kelly's comments… and what I'm saying to you today is something that the president has said over and over and over again and repeated, and let's not forget the words that we have heard from the former president,” she said, as she repeated her comments about Jan. 6.
