The White House has said that Vice President Kamala Harris needs some time off after she has been “working hard” the past four years despite her and President Joe Biden not leaving office until January.

As the lame-duck Bidne-Harris administration is coming to a close, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about Harris’ recent vacation and told reporters that there was no issue with Harris taking time off during the last few months of her term as vice president.

“Good for her,” was Jean-Pierre’s response when asked about Harris’ Hawaiian vacation even as she leaves her campaign in massive debt and an administration that may be moving closer to a nuclear confrontation with Russia.

“I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I think she deserves some time to be with her family and to have some down time. She has worked very hard over the last four years and her taking a couple of days to be with her family – good for her. Good for her. Thanks everybody,” Jean-Pierre said.

President Joe Biden has also been criticized for spending too much time on vacation while serving in the Oval Office. In August he spent almost two weeks at his favorite Delaware beach, despite promising to devote a maximum amount of time to fulfilling his presidential legacy in the time he had remaining in the White House.

Harris is reportedly unsure about her next steps post-vice presidency, but has told advisors that she wants to keep all avenues open, including attempting a second presidential run in 2028, even though she has not had success in 2020 or 2024. She could also return to California, where she has had some success as a district attorney in San Francisco, state attorney general and as US senator. She has reportedly floated the idea to also run for California governor in 2026.
