'Unprovoked' Winnipeg hammer attack hospitalizes two men

Winnipeg Police say a man started his attack near the Millennium Library at around 3:10 pm in what is currently believed to be an uprovoked incident on random civilians.

A man is in custody following a violent hammer attack that has left two in hospital.

Winnipeg Police say a man started his attack near the Millennium Library at around 3:10 pm in what is currently believed to be an uprovoked incident on random civilians.

The first victim was rushed to hospital in unstable condition after sustaining serious head injuries from the hammer.

A second man in his 60s was also rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Both victims are in stable condition as of Sunday, police say.

Eric Michael Robert Oksasikewiyin, 28, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, with two counts of possessing a weapon, and mischief under $5,000.
