Shawn Nickerson, a Riverview, NB basketball coach, is now facing a total of 30 charges related to child pornography that police seized on a "variety of electronic devices."
Nickerson had previously been arrested on a single charge of making child pornography, but further investigation warranted 29 additional charges, to make the 30 his is now facing, as the Crown prosecutor announced on Tuesday.
According to Global News, the string of offences occurred between June 2, 2016, and October 25, 2020, and the new string of charges laid against Nickerson include making and possession of child pornography and making child pornography available, as well as charges related to several alleged violations of privacy.
Nickerson will be having a bail hearing on Monday, November 9.
The incidents in question involve seven separate minors of age, as well as others only identified as "unknown persons" at this time, and Nickerson's Facebook account has made unavailable to the public, in order to protect the identities of some of the victims.
The school has offered counselors and other resources for students and staff who feel they are psychologically affected by the unfolding events.
A representative from the RCMP mentioned that, as the investigation is ongoing, there will be no comments available at this time.
