Bennie Thompson would accept Biden's pardon after chairing J6 committee

Speaking with CNN’s Jim Acosta on Thursday, Rep. Bennie Thompson, the former chair of the January 6 committee, said he would accept a preemptive pardon from President Joe Biden if offered.

"The president, it’s his prerogative. If he offers it, to me or other members of the committee, I think it — I would accept it, but it’s his choice," said Thompson.

He continued, "I think the staff of the committee who did a wonderful job; I think the witnesses who were primarily Republicans did a great job under oath. They were not found to have perjured themselves or anything like that. ... We’ve had two years of review by Republican chairpersons. They found nothing wrong.

Thompson then claimed there was nothing the January 6 committee “took out of the record" during its investigation.

"We stand by the work of the committee. Our committee did a wonderful job. We shared it with the public, and all the public has to do is to read the report that we filed based on our report."

In the wake of Biden pardoning his son, Hunter, other names have reportedly been floated for consideration for preemptive pardons, including retired General Mark Milley, Senator-elect Adam Schiff, former GOP Congresswoman Liz Cheney, and Dr. Anthony Fauci.

MSNBC political analyst and New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg called for Biden to issue "blanket pardons" to everyone listed in a book written by Kash Patel, which she claimed included an "enemies list."

In a recent interview with NBC, Trump called for members of the committee to be sent to jail. "Honestly, they should go to jail," he said, per The Hill, though adding that he would not instruct his top law enforcement officials to do so.
