White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to questions on Thursday about the Epstein files, or what President Donald Trump has been calling the Epstein "hoax," and to a report that claimed Trump would back the appointment of a special prosecutor to handle the case.

"The President said that he floated the idea of a special prosecutor in the Epstein case. Can you confirm that? And has he asked the Attorney General to do this, to appoint a special prosecutor, to look it over?" A reporter asked.

"Well, the idea was floated from someone in the media to the President," Leavitt said. "The President would not recommend a special prosecutor in the Epstein case. That's how he feels. And as for his discussions with the Attorney General, I'm not sure."

This question and answer follow a report from Just the News' John Solomon on Wednesday, in which Solomon said that during an interview he held with Trump, the president said that he would back the appointment of a special prosecutor.

Later that day, when the interview was aired on Real America's Voice, it became clear that the president was not specifically calling for the appointment. In that interview as aired, Solomon asked the president "There's the Russia collusion against you, there's Jack Smith against you, there's all the things in 2020, not inestigating China intereference in the 2020 election. What are the things that are most important that you would like to see the FBI get to the bottom of?"

"I think they could look at all of it, it's the same scam," Trump said. "They could look at this Jeffrey Epstein hoax also, because that the same stuff that's all put out by Democrats, and you know, some of the naive Republicans fall right into line, like they always do.

"They just don't have the sustainability," Trump continued. "They don't have— there's something they don't have that stick to it, like glue, like the Democrats, you know, they have bad policy, they have bad candidates, they have bad everything, but they stick together. The Republicans don't do that, but they ought to look into the Jeffrey Epstein hoax too, because that's another hoax that's frankly, put out by the pushing the Republicans, and put out by the Democrats.

"They definitely set the Republicans up," Solomon said. "One, one big prosecutor to look at it all? Would that make you feel good do you think?"

"Well, I think in the case of Epstein, they've already looked at it, and they are looking at it, and I think all they have to do is put out anything credible. But you know, that was run by the Biden administration for four years. I can imagine what they put into files, just like they did with the others.

"I mean, the Steele dossier was a total fake. It took two years to figure that out for the people and all of the things that you mentioned were fake. So I would imagine if they were run by Chris Wray and they were run by Comey, and because it was actually even before that administration, they've been running these files, and so much of the things that we found were fake, with me. But especially you look at that Steel dossiere where they paid like $14 or $16 million— that's more than James Patterson gets paid to do a number one bestseller, and the thing turned out to be a total scam. So frankly, you know, I love that they're looking at all this stuff. If they are.

Leavitt fielded further questions on Epstien from the briefing room. "There's been a lot of discussion about the Epstein files and the President's comments yesterday calling it a hoax. Can you clarify which part of the Epstein hoax is the hoax part?" Leavitt was asked.

"The hoax part the president is referring to," Leavitt said, "is the fact that Democrats have now seized on this as if they ever wanted transparency when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein, which is an asinine suggestion for any Democrat to make. The Democrats had control of this building, the White House, for four years, and they didn't do a dang thing when it comes to transparency in regards to Jeffrey Epstein and his heinous crimes. It was this president who directed the Department of Justice and the attorney general to do an exhaustive review of all files related to Jeffrey Epstein, which they did.

"The attorney general and the FBI, led by Pam Bondi, Dan Bongino, Kash Patel, these are great patriots, some of the most trusted voices in the Republican Party movement. It's part of the reason the President appointed them to these high law enforcement positions, and they spent many months going through all of the files related to Jeffrey Epstein. And they concluded what they found in that memo, which they drafted and they released. And so the President has been transparent. He has followed through on his promises to the American people, but he doesn't like to see Democrats in the mainstream media covering this like it's the biggest story that the American people care about."

Leavitt was also asked about the backlash against Trump from the MAGA base, who have been upset by his insistence that the Epstein situation is a "hoax" and his referring to those who are still curious about the files and an alleged client list as "PAST supporters."

"Has the White House been directly in touch with some of those MAGA influencers that are still not satisfied with the administration's handling and has a message to them been similar to what the president has said, 'either let this go or we don't need your support'?"

"Look," Leavitt said, "the President and this team are always in contact with the President's supporters, with voices of many kinds, on both sides of the aisle. I think that's part of the reason this President is a great president, because he's willing to listen and hear other people's perspectives. But ultimately, he has led this country, not just over the past six months to historic success, but also through his first four years as president and as the leader and the creator of the MAGA movement. He has led through these perilous times for our country based on instinct and in the best interest of the country, and as I always say, the American people should trust in President Trump."

On Wednesday, Trump had posted to Truth Social, saying ""The Radical Left Democrats have hit pay dirt, again!" Trump said. "Just like with the FAKE and fully discredited Steele Dossier, the lying 51 'Intelligence' Agents, the Laptop from Hell, which the Dems swore had come from Russia (No, it came from Hunter Biden’s bathroom!), and even the Russia, Russia, Russia Scam itself, a totally fake and made up story used in order to hide Crooked Hillary Clinton’s big loss in the 2016 Presidential Election, these Scams and Hoaxes are all the Democrats are good at - It’s all they have - They are no good at governing, no good at policy, and no good at picking winning candidates.

"Also, unlike Republicans," the post continued, "they stick together like glue. Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this 'bullshit,' hook, line, and sinker. They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years. I have had more success in 6 months than perhaps any President in our Country’s history, and all these people want to talk about, with strong prodding by the Fake News and the success starved Dems, is the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax. Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore! Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Democrats such as Reps. Ro Khanna, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Sens. Dick Durbin, Chris Van Hollen, have all pushed the administration to release the Epstein files, not because they are particularly concerned about it but because it is an opening for attacking Republicans.

Khanna attempted to add an ammendment to a bill that would force the release of the files by the DOJ and both Durbin and Van Hollen sent a letter to AG Pam Bondi demanding the files be released. Bondi, Patel, and Bongino penned a memo that said that there would be no futher release because all that was left were videos of child exploitation and grand jury testimony that would expose victims.
