Trump supports appointing special prosecutor for Epstein files, veteran journalist says

Update: A day after this report, the White House denied that Trump supported bringing in a special prosecutor.

President Donald Trump has reportedly said that he supports appointing a special prosecutor to look into the Jeffrey Epstein situation, along with other topics.

Just the News founder John Solomon revealed to Steve Bannon that he had spoken to Trump, who told him he was "thinking about big issues" and is "frustrated by all the social media chatter from people who don't really know what's in the Epstein files. And he was very pointed about that. Let's say, focus on the things that matter to the American people. I want the answers to Epstein, he said, so let the prosecutor do that."

Bannon asked whether Trump was "on board with the situation of getting a special prosecutor and having the Epstein situation put into that so that can be formally looked at," to which Solomon noted that Trump "volunteered" the comment when Solomon had asked about a special prosecutor into other topics.

"He immediately brings up Epstein, like, just throw that in, let's get it all in. I’ve got nothing to hide. I want the truth, I want prosecutions, I just want the justice system to take care of what needs to be taken care of," Solomon said. Former White House strategist Steve Bannon has previously called for a special prosecutor to be appointed.

Speaking with Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec, Solomon said, "I think people are going to be disappointed with what's in the government files not because there probably wasn't good stuff to be had, but because the government did a crappy job investigating this."

Solomon said that Trump had learned "recently" that FBI Director Kash Patel had opened a conspiracy case looking into "the last decade of weaponization" by the federal government, including against Trump himself. Solomon said that after Trump learned about the case, he told Solomon, "I like the idea" and "I also think that as a special prosecutor, that prosecutor should look at anything credible about Jeffrey Epstein. Let’s get this resolved. Let’s get the American people the most transparency. 

Speaking in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump reiterated comments he posted to Truth Social earlier in the day, saying on the Epstein files, "I know it’s a hoax. It's started by Democrats, it’s been run by the Democrats for four years. You had Christopher Wray and these characters and Comey before him, and it’s a bad group."

He noted that the Steele dossier "turned out to be a total hoax," as well as the subject matter of a letter signed onto by 51 intelligence agents ahead of the 2020 election regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop. 

"It's all been a big hoax. It's perpetrated by the Democrats. And some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net, and so they try and do the Democrats' work. The Democrats are good for nothing other than these hoaxes."

He told reporters that he has "lost a lot of faith in certain people, yeah, because they got duped by the Democrats," and said that the Biden administration’s use of the autopen is the "scandal they should be talking about, not Jeffrey Epstein." The difference in this case is that it has been Republicans, not Democrats, sounding the alarm on Epstein and refusing to give up the ghost.
