UPDATE: On Friday evening the NYPD posted: "Matthew Rodriguez, 18, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of the 7-month-old baby on Wednesday, April, 1. He was taken into custody in Pennsylvania by NYPD Detectives assigned to the US Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. Charges are pending."

Original story follows.

In a press conference on Thursday, authorities revealed that a 21-year-old man faces charges of murder and attempted murder over the shooting of 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore in Brooklyn.

The suspect, identified as Amuri Greene by New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, is currently in the hospital. She said that Greene was the "trigger puller" in the case. The baby was struck by a stray bullet while she was inside her stroller, out with her parents. Her 2-year-old brother was also grazed by a bullet in the shooting.

"Amuri Greene, the trigger puller who is currently in the hospital, will be arrested and charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder." She said that the driver of the scooter has been identified, but did not release his name.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said that Greene is a known associate of a street gang that operates out of a Brooklyn public housing project. Investigators are looking into whether the baby’s father could have been the intended target in the attack as part of a dispute with a rival gang.

Police say that the baby's mother was pushing the stroller when the suspects approached the corner on the scooter and shot towards a group of people that had been gathered on the street corner next to the bodega. The mother fled to take cover inside, where she discovered that her daughter had been shot.

Bystanders said that they heard an argument that was then followed by gunfire. One bystander said, "I was in the supermarket and coming out with my sandwich. I heard a commotion and a shot. Once you hear shots in the air, you duck. I saw a girl on the floor with her baby."
