According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), deadly threats against ICE officers have increased by 8,000 percent.
On January 25, a resident had submitted a complaint to the Erie Police Department that included a screenshot of a violent anti-ICE comment Hazel-Shimko had written on Facebook. In the post, the now-ex officer commented to another user, "they wear armor so headshots would work better," suggesting ICE agents should be shot in the head.
"The Erie Police Department was made aware of a concern involving a sworn employee's comment on their social media profile. The external complaint, submitted by a resident, expressed concern about rhetoric unbecoming of an officer," the police department said in a press release, explaining that an investigation was immediately launched.
"The Erie Police Department coordinated with town management, human resources, and notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation due to the nature of the comment. After a thorough investigation, the Chief determined there were multiple violations of department directives," the department said. "The officer is no longer employed with the Erie Police Department."
EPD was inundated with requests to terminate and prosecute Hazel-Shimko, including from the popular social media account Libs of TikTok, which wrote on X: "Anyone promoting the m*rder of federal agents should NOT be in charge of enforcing our laws. HAILI MUST BE FIRED AND CHARGED."
