"Dirtbags like this will continue to be removed from our streets," Noem said.
New Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was on the streets of New York City on Tuesday morning alongside Immigration and Customs Enforcement as they arrested illegal immigrants in the sanctuary city. Noem was confirmed into her new role in the Trump administration on Saturday morning and wasted no time getting down to business.
Noem posted video of ICE taking an illegal immigrant into custody who had been charged with kidnapping, assault, and burglary. "Dirtbags like this will continue to be removed from our streets," Noem said.
According to Fox News, one of those arrested during the operation was a Haitian national with an Interpol red notice. He was wanted in Haiti for a double homicide. The outlet noted that border crossings are at a historic low just over a week after Trump took office. Border Patrol sources told the outlet that on Sunday, there were 582 encounters that day.
This comes as Border Czar Tom Homan has also been boots on the ground in the US amid deportation operations. TV host Dr Phil joined Homan in Chicago as authorities arrested illegal immigrants, including a convicted child sex offender from Thailand.
Homan has urged illegal immigrants to leave the US, saying in a recent interview, "If you’re in the country illegally, you're on the table, because it's not OK to, you know, violate the laws of this country. You got to remember, every time you enter this country illegally, you violated a crime under Title Eight, the United States Code 1325, it's a crime. So, if you're in a country illegally, you got a problem. And that's why I'm hoping those who are in the country illegally, who have not been ordered removed by the federal judge, should leave."
