A new survey has revealed that 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump would win over President Joe Biden in the electoral college, while DeSantis would lose in a hypothetical match against the incumbent.
The survey, conducted by Stack Data Strategy and published by Politico, found that Trump would win the electoral college against Biden in a hypothetical rematch 292 to 246, respectively.
In the case of a DeSantis v Biden election, Biden would beat the Florida Governor by a landslide, with 359 electoral college votes to 179.
The poll found that Trump was on track to win back four key swing states that Biden had won in 2020: Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. These were states that Trump had previously won in the 2016 election.
Arizona voters were found to prefer Trump to Biden 48.7 to 47.3 percent, Georgia voters preferred Trump 50.3 to 47.1 percent, Pennsylvania voters preferred Trump 49.6 to 47.3 percent, and voters in Wisconsin preferred Trump 48.9 to 47.9 percent.
The poll found that Biden is beating Trump by only a small margin in Michigan, by 0.7 percent and Nevada, by 1.4 percent.
The poll was conducted between Oct. 13 and Nov. 3, surveying 15,205 registered US voters.
This comes less than a year out from the 2024 presidential election, and two months out from the Iowa Republican caucus, the first significant event in the presidential election cycle.
The crowded Republican primary field shrunk by one on Sunday, when South Carolina Senator Tim Scott announced that he was suspending his presidential campaign.
Remaining in the field are Trump, DeSantis, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.
Trump has promised in his second term to end welfare and government benefits for illegal immigrants, institute the death penalty for child traffickers, designate drug cartels as foreign terrorists, and finish the border wall that he began construction on in his first term, among other topics of concern.
