The European Union (EU) is reportedly set to recommend that their member nations reinstate restrictions on travelers from the US.
On Monday, EU diplomats spoke to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, saying that the recommendation could come as soon as this week to restrict Americans from entering Europe. This would reverse the EU recommendation made in June to lift restrictions on US travelers to EU countries ahead of the tourism season.

Any recommendation by the EU to reinstate travel restrictions would be non-binding on member nations, as the EU has no uniform Covid-19 travel policy and each government has the authority to decide whether they will act on the recommendation or not.
The EU criteria for allowing US residents into their member nations for non-essential travel requires no more than 75 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 over the past two weeks in the US. According to the CDC, the total number of new COVID-19 cases in the US has been over 11,000 per 100,000 for the past two weeks.
This comes at the same time that the Danish Minister of Health, Magnus Heunicke, announced that Denmark will be removing all of their domestic Covid-19 restrictions on September 10. This does not include restrictions for travelers entering their country. Only fully-vaccinated US travelers can enter freely right now, and those who are not fully-vaccinated are only allowed to enter if they receive a negative Covid-19 test.
