Multiple arrests were made after federal agents deployed tear gas and pepper balls during violent protests outside the ICE detention center in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday afternoon. This comes after the Trump administration activated 200 National Guard troops to the Portland area earlier this week.

Footage posted on X by Freedom News showed tense altercations between Antifa protesters and law enforcement, with agents using tear gas canisters and pepper balls to disperse the crowd after protesters walked up to the federal building grounds and blocked the facility’s gates.

Blackhawk helicopters were also seen flying over the detention center as tear gas was deployed, following through on Secretary Kristi Noem's promise to increase DHS resources at the facility.

The Portland ICE facility has remained a hub for violent protests as anti-ICE protesters continue to gather outside to protest ICE. Hundreds of archers on Saturday headed toward the facility and were heard chanting, “Who’s Streets? Our Streets!” while holding signs reading “Abolish ICE,” “Stop Hunting Our Neighbors,” and others comparing the agency to the Gestapo.

It is unclear how many people were arrested, but multiple protesters were seen being arrested by federal law enforcement as they fired tear gas canisters into the mob.

Protesters have also been seen burning American flags and engaging in increasingly violent behavior in recent days.

The increase in violence comes after President Donald Trump announced last week that he would be deploying members of the Oregon National Guard to Portland to help protect law enforcement and federal property.

On Friday night, a protester crossed the blue line marking federal property, prompting agents to pursue and take the individual into custody. Portland police also arrested two people accused of blocking the street and obstructing passing vehicles. The Post Millennial’s Katie Daviscourt was assaulted by an Antifa militant earlier in the week.

Thursday night saw additional unrest when federal agents again deployed pepper balls and pepper spray to control crowds. Three individuals were arrested that evening, including journalist Nick Sortor, who was taken into custody after defending himself from physical attacks.
