BREAKING: Freedom protesters arrested at Ambassador Bridge, vehicles towed

Windsor police said multiple freedom protesters were arrested and vehicles were towed just after dawn near the Ambassador Bridge.

After moving in Saturday to clear the freedom protesters on the Ambassador Bridge, police arrested several of the remaining demonstrators at the busy US-Canadian border crossing Sunday, making good on previous promises.

In a collaborative effort between police at the local and national levels, authorities moved in and "peacefully" arrested multiple protestors while seven vehicles were towed just after dawn, Windsor police said, according to Associated Press.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford declared a state of emergency last week, while a Canadian judge ordered an end to the blockade Friday. Freedom protesters had held the line following the court's order to clear the Ambassador Bridge.

"Today, our national economic crisis at the Ambassador Bridge came to an end," said Windsor's Mayor Drew Dilkens, who expressed hope that the bridge would reopen Sunday. "Border crossings will reopen when it is safe to do so and I defer to police and border agencies to make that determination," Dilkens added.

President Joe Biden's administration acknowledged the resolution Sunday.

"We stand ready to support our Canadian partners wherever useful in order to ensure the restoration of the normal free flow of commerce can resume," Homeland Security Advisor Dr. Liz Sherwood-Randall said in a statement.

The viral Freedom Convoy protests has sparked similar pro-medical freedom movements worldwide, inspiring New Zealanders to protest government restrictions, for example, in recent days. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has expressed concern over the possibility of a DC-bound trucker convoy in the US.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the Biden administration is preparing for a potential protest heading to the national's capital.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has also encouraged the Freedom Convoy to come to the United States, expressing that he's "all for it" happening in America.

CNN, however, voiced fears that it could be "inspiring others across the globe."
