Democrats and liberal media pundits were quick to claim Musk performed a "Heil Hitler" salute to the audience; however, Musk refuted the allegations and even the leftwing Anti-Defamation League (ADL) stepped in to defend him.
"You're going to do a Sig Heil? You're going to do a Heil Hitler from behind the presidential seal of the United States of America? It's on!" AOC said in a video posted to her 8.3 million followers on Instagram.
The progressive congresswoman then encouraged her audience not to "give up" in the wake of Trump's second inauguration, saying, "It's not over." She also called out Libs of TikTok, a popular conservative activist account on X, for taking aim at her earlier in the week.
"What is so important for us to understand is that as long as we don't give up, it's not over. It is not over! Libs of TikTok started crying because I said over the weekend that Donald Trump was a racist. I said basically, 'F you! Cry more!' I don't give a sh*t. If you want to support a rapist that's on you," AOC said. "They want to call in all of these threats into my office and all this other stuff. I don't give a damn."
The ADL defended Musk, a former Democrat, on X, saying, "It seems that Elon Musk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute." However, AOC refused to accept the ADL's defense of Musk and responded on X: "Just to be clear, you are defending a Heil Hitler salute that was performed and repeated for emphasis and clarity."
