The Vice President appearance comes as Disney and the Trump administration remain locked in a dispute over the future of several ABC television stations.

On June 16 Vice President JD Vance will make his first appearance on ABC’s “The View” to discuss his new book “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.” While the program is set to largely surround his book they are likely to talk about priorities for the administration and the latest political headlines.

“The View," which has been on air since 1997, has found talking about political headlines to be a staple in their show, and has been critical of the Trump administration with cohosts like Whoopi Goldberg telling Vance to “shut up.” Goldberg announced this week that Vance will be joining the show next Tuesday.

The Vice President's appearance comes as Disney and the Trump administration remain locked in a dispute over the future of several ABC television stations. Earlier this year, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr ordered Disney to submit license renewal applications for eight ABC-owned stations years ahead of their normal schedule. The move has drawn sharp criticism from Disney, which argued the order exceeds the FCC's authority.

In regulatory filings, the company stated that it submitted the applications "under protest," describing Carr's order as unconstitutional, according to the AP. The dispute has added another layer of tension between Disney and the Trump administration as the president has not been shy about his distaste for media companies subsidiaries. ABC has also been directed to pay $15 million towards Trump's presidential library as a result of a defamation lawsuit filed against the news company.

Vance's appearance on the ABC talk show comes amid the ongoing standoff, placing him on a network currently engaged in a high-profile spat with the federal government. Vance's appearance is expected to create fireworks, given the show's long history of sharp criticism toward both him and President Trump. With The View hosts rarely holding back their opinions and Vance known for pushing back against critics, the interview could become one of the most contentious political exchanges on daytime television has seen in quite some time.
