"Despite their overall Democratic lean, Jewish voters are more likely to report high levels of concern over growing antisemitism in the Democratic Party than within the Republican Party."
Jewish support for the Democratic Party has hit its lowest mark since the era of Ronald Reagan as the election for 2024 is coming down the wire. This revelation comes as war in the Middle East between Israel and Iran-backed proxy groups has increased in recent days.
A new poll from the Manhattan Institute revealed that across the United States, Jewish voters, although they mostly align with the Democratic Party, are on track to give Kamala Harris the lowest support for a Democrat since Reagan was running for president.
In 1992, 80 percent of Jewish voters supported Bill Clinton in his run for president, but things have generally shifted in the direction of Republicans since then. In 2016 Hillary won 71 percent, and Biden got 68 percent in 2020, per the New York Post. Now that stands at 67 percent, according to the poll and Trump would take around 31 percent of the Jewish vote across the United States.
The Democratic Party has appeared to show tolerance with the voices harshly critical of Israel that have crept into its most left-wing base, with many on college campuses labeling Israel's response to the October 7 terrorist attacks a "genocide" when even the White House has said such accusations are false.
"Despite their overall Democratic lean, Jewish voters are more likely to report high levels of concern over growing antisemitism in the Democratic Party than within the Republican Party. 'Security, Israel, and antisemitism' are Harris’s weakest issue relative to former President Donald Trump among Jewish voters," the institute reported.
Despite Jewish people supporting the Democratic Party on the majority of issues, there are disagreements between Jews and some in the Democratic Party, where 86 percent of Jews support the Jewish state and 62 percent of Jews are concerned over antisemitism in the Democratic Party. A mere five percent of Jewish voters do not support Israel.
