"The vice president believes that this race is about mobilizing the entire country, in races at every level."
Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign along with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) are funding “down-ballot” races for Democrat looking to gain or keep House and Senate seats with $25 million in aid.
The Tuesday announcement means the Democrats are prepared much more than in recent elections to try to win back the House of Representatives and keep the Senate in their hands, Politico reported.
The money suggests that the Harris campaign is bringing in enough fundraising in its short history, since Harris was elevated to the top of the ballot and President Joe Biden was pushed out, to dispense some of the cash around to Democratic candidates in need. It also means that the Harris campaign is thinking about how to avoid gridlock between the executive and legislative branches of the federal government.
The Harris campaign has spent $47 million more on digital advertising in the first month of its existence than the campaign of former President Donald Trump.
The $25 million is coming from the Harris campaign and the DNC, with $10 million from each organization going to political action committees supporting Democratic candidates for Congress, another $2.5 million for state Democratic candidates and another $1 million each for groups helping to elect Democratic governors and attorneys general.
“The vice president believes that this race is about mobilizing the entire country, in races at every level, to fight for our freedoms and our economic opportunity,” Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement. “That’s why the vice president has made the decision to invest a historic sum into electing Democrats up and down the ballot.”
In another statement noted by Politico, Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said the funds will "help Senate Democrats reach more voters, increase the strength of our campaigns and ensure Democrats protect our Senate majority."
The money started flowing into the Democratic coffers after Biden left the race and big donors were satisfied their party had a fighting chance of taking the presidency.
Trump has less money to spend than Harris, largely because of legal bills associated with the multiple court cases brought against him by the Biden administration's Department of Justice and other prosecutors. As he has in the past, Trump likes to rely on the free advertising of mass rallies that are still covered by mainstream media, but even more so, by dozens of social media channels with viewership sometimes higher than cable news networks. A rally in Butler, PA, where an attempted assassination put the president’s life in jeopardy, has not cooled Trump’s enthusiasm for these events.Powered by The Post Millennial CMS™ Comments
