A 21-year-old who boasted about turning his father into the FBI for going to the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021 has received nearly $200,000 in donations on a GoFundMe after he said he would be using it to pay for college or "saving it for years to come." Reffitt was sentenced to the longest prison term of any of the J6ers, though the over seven years he received was longer than the 15 years the DOJ asked for.

Jackson Reffitt, 21, is the son of J6 defendant Guy Reffitt. Guy was sentenced in Aug. 2022 to 87 months in prison, three years of supervised release, $2,000 in restitution. The then-teenage son had tipped off the FBI that his father had gone to the Capitol building. Although Guy did not enter the building itself, he was found guilty of five felony charges. He was charged with having a gun on the grounds of the Capitol, though he did not use it. He was also charged with obstruction of justice, though that charge may now be vacated following the Supreme Court's decision in Fischer v. United States.

Jackson testified against his father at trial and Guy was sentenced in Aug. 2022. Jackson had tipped the government even before his father went to DC when Jackson was 18 years old. On January 16, 2021, the FBI raided the Reffitt home and took Guy into custody. On January 22, Jackson went on CNN to take credit for the arrest, and said that his father is “an adult and made his own decisions.”

He then made a GoFundMe page the same day as the CNN interview, called the "Jackson Reffitt college fund." He wrote on the page, "I was interviewed on CNN and got so much support from thousands of people, so many asked for a GoFundMe Me so here it is. Every penny is another course in college or me saving it for years to come."

"I might be kicked out of my house due to my involvement in my dad's case, so every cent might help me survive. Thank you so much. Seriously," Jackson wrote on the page. Not everyone was pleased with his decision to turn on his dad.

In an update to the GoFundMe page before his father's conviction in February 2022, Jackson wrote, "Hey everyone! Trial looming closer and barely any sleep i’m (sic) terrified but very excited as well. Spending a few weeks in DC, please let me know if there is anything i (sic) should visit, read, or watch to keep myself busy! To this day i (sic) read every message sent my way so please hit me up! reading (sic) anything sent my way will keep my mind off of the stressful next few weeks."

He also linked an article as an update to the page in 2023 about how his family's relationships had been shattered by the events.

In court, Guy cried as Jackson testified against him for three hours with his son saying he has no regrets for turning his father in. In an interview on Tuesday with the Daily Beast, with the title "I turned in my insurrectionist dad, how can Trump be immune?" Jackson blamed Trump for the damage caused to his family, saying, “Trump destroyed my whole family… Without Trump, my family would still be together. I 100 percent guarantee you. It was a perfect family.”
